SPECIALIST AREA: BANK TREASURY, PRUDENTIAL RISKS, BOARD GOVERNANCE
Ian brings more than 36 years experience in Financial Services, covering leadership roles in treasury for a number of major U.K. banks, before in 2011 switching to professional services and building up a treasury advisory team firstly for a Big Four firm and then more recently as a retained Senior Advisor. Ian is an expert in all aspects of capital management from issuance through to capital planning and stress testing and both policy and practical aspects of liquidity risk, funding, interest rate risk in the banking book, non-trading FX, FTP, large exposures and intra group limits.
Prior to joining FMCR, Ian's last few roles were as Head of Non-Traded Market Risk and then Group Head of Capital, both in RBS Group. This was followed by just over three years as Group Treasurer of Tesco Bank (member of Executive Leadership) and then three and a half years at Deloitte leading the Financial Institutions Treasury Advisory team and 5 years at Alvarez and Marsal.
Selected highlights from Ian's line management and professional services roles include leading the U.K.'s first ever regulated mortgage securitisation issue and first ever USD preference share issue, designing and implementing FTP systems for a wide variety of banks including G-SIB, U.K. challenger banks and overseas entities and designing and implementing both FX and interest rate hedging strategies for a wide variety of financial institutions. His body of work also includes, working on numerous due diligences on potential and actual acquisitions/disposals across the globe. He has also led or assisted on a wide variety of stress testing projects covering both liquidity and capital related stresses and taken a lead role in producing a number of Working Capital reports for UKLA prospectuses.
His non treasury related work includes Corporate Banking in U.K. and overseas, designing a new operating model for Barclays to encompass multiple delivery channels, negotiating the economics for the Virgin One joint venture, designing Balanced Business Scorecard for RBS and building product pricing models for retail banking products.
Whilst the majority of his treasury work has been for banks his list of advisory clients also includes central banks, government departments, supra-nationals, insurance companies, asset managers, commodity trading firms, payment services firms and various other financial institutions.
Ian is a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and has a Master of Arts in Mathematics from Cambridge University.
Ian is currently a trustee for three charities, a Chair for a rapidly growing wealth management business in the cryptoasset space, a Non- Executive Director for a regulated firm that provides a global trading platform, a Non-Executive Director for a cyber security firm and a member of the Advisory Board for 2 UK based FinTech companies.
